Product Usage

 

• SELECTION & INSTALLATION: Choosing and installing the right chain is crucial for optimal performance and safety.

We strongly recommend lubricating a new connecting link before connecting both ends of the new chain (see Fig. B). For clip-type connecting links (FJ, RJ), the open end of the clip must be set opposite the chain drive direction (see Fig. C). The FJ type linking has Press Fit Outer Plates that require the SFR Cutting & Riveting Tool to press on the side plates. For rivet-type connecting links (ZJ), use the MOTOMAX KM500R Cutting & Riveting Tool to press-fit the connecting link plates and precisely rivet the pin head according to our recommended flare dimensions. For chain sag adjustment, refer to your motorcycle owner's manual. The standard chain sag with the load of riders is 10 mm (see Fig. D).

 

• SELECTION & INSTALLATION: Ensure you select and install the correct chain for superior performance and safety.

1. Always consult your distributor or local dealer, or check the SFR chain catalogue or application chart to confirm compatibility of the chain and connecting link with your motorcycle. Incorrect selection and use can cause serious damage or injury.

2. Cut the old chain at its joint part. If your motorcycle originally came with an endless chain or a chain with a rivet-type connecting link (ZJ), use the SFR Cutting & Riveting Tool or a similar cutting tool.

3. Fit the new chain to the end of the old one using a new connecting link. By turning the rear wheel, the new chain will move into position (see Fig. A).
