• SELECTION & INSTALLATION: The Essential Guide

To ensure optimal performance, we strongly recommend lubricating the new connecting link before joining both ends of the new chain (Fig. B). For Clip type connecting links (FJ, RJ), ensure the open end of the clip is positioned opposite to the chain's drive direction (Fig. C). The FJ type connecting link features Press Fit Outer Plates, necessitating the use of the SFR Cutting & Riveting Tool to secure the side plates. For Rivet type connecting links (ZJ), the MOTOMAX KM500R Cutting & Riveting Tool is required to press fit the connecting link plates and precisely flare the rivet pin head to our recommended dimensions. Chain sag adjustments should adhere to the motorcycle owner's manual, with a standard sag of 10 mm under load (Fig. D).

 

• SELECTION & INSTALLATION: The Comprehensive Guide

1. Consult with your distributor, local dealer, or refer to the SFR chain catalogue or application chart to verify the compatibility of this chain and connecting link with your motorcycle. Incorrect selection and usage can result in severe damage or injury.

2. Remove the old chain by cutting at its joint. For motorcycles equipped with an endless chain or a Rivet type connecting link (ZJ), use the SFR Cutting & Riveting Tool or a similar cutting tool.

3. Attach the new chain to the end of the old one using a new connecting link. Rotate the rear wheel to position the new chain correctly (Fig. A).
