Product Usage

 

• SELECTION & INSTALLATION

We strongly recommend lubricating a new connecting link before joining both ends of the new chain (Fig. B). For clip type connecting links (FJ, RJ), ensure the open end of the clip faces opposite the chain's drive direction (Fig. C). The FJ type connecting link features Press Fit Outer Plates, requiring the SFR Cutting & Riveting Tool to secure the side plates. For rivet type connecting links (ZJ), use the MOTOMAX KM500R Cutting & Riveting Tool to accurately press fit the connecting link plates and rivet the pin head to the recommended flare dimensions. To adjust chain sag, refer to your motorcycle owner's manual. The standard chain sag with the rider's load is 10 mm (Fig. D).

 

• SELECTION & INSTALLATION

1. Consult your distributor, local dealer, or check the SFR chain catalogue or application chart to ensure this chain and connecting link are suitable for your motorcycle. Improper selection and use can result in severe damage or injury.

2. Cut the old chain at its joint. If your motorcycle came with an endless chain or a chain with a Rivet type connecting link (ZJ), utilize the SFR Cutting & Riveting Tool or a comparable cutting tool.

3. Attach the new chain to the end of the old one using a new connecting link. By rotating the rear wheel, the new chain will be positioned correctly (Fig. A).
