• SELECTION & INSTALLATION

We strongly recommend that you lubricate a new connecting link before joining the ends of the new chain (Fig. B). For clip-type connecting links (FJ, RJ), ensure the open end of the clip is facing away from the chain's drive direction (Fig. C). The FJ-type link features Press Fit Outer Plates that must be installed using the SFR Cutting & Riveting Tool to press the side plates correctly. For rivet-type connecting links (ZJ), use the MOTOMAX KM500R Cutting & Riveting Tool to precisely press fit the connecting link plates and accurately rivet the pin head to our recommended flare dimensions. For chain sag adjustment, please refer to your motorcycle owner's manual. The standard chain sag with rider load is 10 mm (Fig. D).

 

• SELECTION & INSTALLATION

1. Ensure you consult your distributor, local dealer, or the SFR chain catalog or application chart to confirm that this chain and connecting link are suitable for your motorcycle. Incorrect selection and application can lead to serious damage or injury.

2. Cut the old chain at the joint. If your motorcycle originally came with either an endless chain or a chain with a rivet-type connecting link (ZJ), use the SFR Cutting & Riveting Tool or a similar cutting tool for this process.

3. Attach the new chain to the end of the old one using a new connecting link. By rotating the rear wheel, the new chain will gradually move into the correct position (Fig. A).
