• SELECTION & INSTALLATION

We strongly recommend lubricating a new connecting link before connecting both ends of the new chain (Fig. B). For a clip-type connecting link (FJ, RJ), ensure the open end of the clip is set opposite the chain drive direction (Fig. C). The FJ type connecting link has Press Fit Outer Plates that require the SFR Cutting & Riveting Tool for pressing on the side plates. For a rivet-type connecting link (ZJ), use the MOTOMAX KM500R Cutting & Riveting Tool to press fit the connecting link plates and precisely rivet the pin head according to our recommended flare dimensions. For chain sag adjustment, adhere to the recommendation in the motorcycle owner's manual. The standard chain sag with the load of riders is 10 mm (Fig. D).

 

• SELECTION & INSTALLATION

1. Be sure to consult your distributor or local dealer and check the SFR chain catalogue or application chart to confirm that this chain and connecting link are suitable for your motorcycle. Improper selection and use may lead to serious damage or injury.

2. Cut the old chain at its joint part. If your motorcycle was equipped with an endless chain or a chain with a rivet-type connecting link (ZJ), use the SFR Cutting & Riveting Tool or a similar cutting tool.

3. Attach the new chain to the end of the old one using a new connecting link. By rotating the rear wheel, the new chain will move into position (Fig. A).
