• SELECTION & INSTALLATION

We strongly recommend that you lubricate the new connecting link before connecting both ends of the new chain (Fig. B). For a clip-type connecting link (FJ, RJ), the open end of the clip must face opposite the chain drive direction (Fig. C). The FJ type has Press Fit Outer Plates that require the SFR Cutting & Riveting Tool to press on the side plates. For a rivet-type connecting link (ZJ), use the MOTOMAX KM500R Cutting & Riveting Tool to press fit the connecting link plates and precisely rivet the pin head by the recommended flare dimensions. For chain sag adjustment, follow the motorcycle owner's manual recommendations. The standard chain sag with the load of riders is 10 mm (Fig. D).

 

• SELECTION & INSTALLATION

1. Be sure to consult your distributor or local dealer, or check the SFR chain catalogue or application chart to ensure that this chain and connecting link are suitable for your motorcycle. Improper selection and use may cause serious damage or injury.

2. Cut the old chain at its joint part. If your motorcycle is equipped with an endless chain or a chain with a Rivet-type connecting link (ZJ), use the SFR Cutting & Riveting Tool or a similar cutting tool.

3. Fit the new chain to the end of the old one using a new connecting link. By turning the rear wheel, the new chain will move into position (Fig. A).
