Product Usage

 

• SELECTION & INSTALLATION

We strongly recommend lubricating a new connecting link before joining both ends of the chain (Fig. B). For clip type connecting links (FJ, RJ), the open end of the clip must face opposite the chain drive direction (Fig. C). The FJ type connecting link features Press Fit Outer Plates requiring the SFR Cutting & Riveting Tool to press the side plates. For rivet type connecting links (ZJ), use the MOTOMAX KM500R Cutting & Riveting Tool to press-fit connecting link plates and precisely rivet the pin head to the flare dimensions we recommend. When adjusting chain sag, follow the motorcycle owner's manual recommendations. The standard chain sag, with riders on the motorcycle, is 10 mm (Fig. D).

 

• SELECTION & INSTALLATION

1. Ensure to consult your distributor, local dealer, or refer to the SFR chain catalogue or application chart to confirm the compatibility of this chain and connecting link with your motorcycle. Incorrect selection and usage can lead to severe damage or injury.

2. Cut the old chain at its joint part. If your motorcycle was originally equipped with an endless chain or a chain with a rivet type connecting link (ZJ), utilize the SFR Cutting & Riveting Tool or a similar cutting tool.

3. Attach the new chain to the end of the old one using a new connecting link. Rotate the rear wheel to position the new chain correctly (Fig. A).
