• SELECTION & INSTALLATION

We strongly recommend lubricating a new connecting link before connecting both ends of the new chain (Fig. B). For clip-type connecting links (FJ, RJ), ensure the open end of the clip is set opposite the chain drive direction (Fig. C). The FJ-type connecting link has Press Fit Outer Plates that require the SFR Cutting & Riveting Tool to press on the side plates. For rivet-type connecting links (ZJ), use the MOTOMAX KM500R Cutting & Riveting Tool to press-fit the connecting link plates and precisely rivet the pin head according to our recommended flare dimensions. For chain sag adjustment, follow the recommendations in the motorcycle owner's manual. The standard chain sag with the load of riders is 10 mm (Fig. D).

 

• SELECTION & INSTALLATION

1. Be sure to consult your distributor or local dealer, or check the SFR chain catalogue or application chart to ensure this chain and connecting link are appropriate for your motorcycle. Improper selection and use may lead to serious damage or injury.

2. Cut the old chain at its joint part. If your motorcycle came with an endless chain or a chain with a rivet-type connecting link (ZJ), use the SFR Cutting & Riveting Tool or a similar cutting tool.

3. Fit the new chain to the end of the old one using a new connecting link. By turning the rear wheel, the new chain will come into position (Fig. A).
