• Selection & Installation

We strongly recommend lubricating a new connecting link before connecting both ends of the new chain (Fig. B). For clip-type connecting links (FJ, RJ), ensure the open end of the clip is set opposite the chain drive direction (Fig. C). The FJ type connecting link has Press Fit Outer Plates and requires the SFR Cutting & Riveting Tool to press on the side plates. For rivet-type connecting links (ZJ), use the MOTOMAX KM500R Cutting & Riveting Tool to press-fit the connecting link plates and rivet the pin head precisely according to our recommended flare dimensions. For chain sag adjustment, follow the guidelines in the motorcycle owner's manual. The standard chain sag with the load of riders is 10 mm (Fig. D).

 

• Selection & Installation

1. Always consult your distributor or local dealer, or check with the SFR chain catalogue or application chart to ensure this chain and connecting link are suitable for your motorcycle. Improper selection and use may result in serious damage or injury.

2. Cut the old chain at its joint part. If your motorcycle came with an endless chain or a chain with a Rivet type connecting link (ZJ), use the SFR Cutting & Riveting Tool or a similar cutting tool.

3. Fit the new chain to the end of the old one using a new connecting link. By turning the rear wheel, the new chain will come into position (Fig. A).
